The research was presented by experts from the UPLAN network and the Kharkiv Foundation for Local Democracy. They told about the research methodology and published its main results. In particular, experts stressed that the economy of the Kharkiv region has high export potential, as well as a high level of investment attractiveness for EU countries. The introduction of the Free Trade Area with the EU and customs preferences for Ukrainian goods have facilitated the realization of this potential at an accelerated pace. At the end of 2019, the share of exports of goods to EU countries from the total regional turnover of the Kharkiv region amounted to about 25%, and imports – 32.0%. The share of exports of services from the Kharkiv region to the EU countries was 35.0%, and imports – 38%. At the same time, the low level of institutional support for the processes of Euroeconomic integration progress led to a general decline in the rating of the Kharkiv region among other regions of Ukraine. According to the results of the study in 2014, the Kharkiv region in the overall ranking of regions of Ukraine according to the Index of European Integration Economic Progress took 15th place, but during 2015 – 2019 fell to 22nd place.

During the discussion of the results of the analytical study, Ruslana Levkina, Professor of the Department of Entrepreneurship, Trade and Exchange Activities of KhNTUA, drew attention to the commodity structure of Ukrainian exports to the EU, emphasizing that the share of agro-industrial products has increased significantly in recent years. This is essential for the development of the agricultural sector. Ruslana Volodymyrivna also stressed that today there is a great demand for organic products on the European market and in the Kharkiv region there are many companies that are actively developing this market niche…
