and the Russian Academy of Quality Problems,
Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor

Anilovych Veniamin
(1930 – 2001)

He was born on May 12, 1930, in Kharkiv in a family of employees.

He graduated in 1953 from the Faculty of Engineering Physics of Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute with a degree in “Dynamics and Strength of Machines”. While still a student, V. Anilovych began independent scientific activity.

After graduating from high school he worked at the Kharkiv Tractor Plant.

Carrying out current calculations of tractor elements, V. Ya. Anilovych improved their methods, generalized and systematized the accumulated material, which later led to the writing (together with Yu. Vodolazhchenko) of the monograph (reference books) “Design and calculation of agricultural tractors”, widely known to the engineering community for several decades now.

A certain result of the work on KTP was summed up by the successful defense of the candidate’s dissertation, in which the theory of analytical calculation of flat hinge mechanisms was developed, applied to the problems of balancing screens and engines produced at HTZ. He was 30 at the time, and he was the first and only candidate of technical sciences at the plant.

His further creative and scientific activity continued in UkrNDISOM from 1962 to 1971, where he organized and headed the scientific laboratory of reliability of agricultural machines, which was conducted and implemented in the field of agricultural engineering scientific developments to improve the reliability of sugar and corn-based technical harvesting dynamic calculations.

Based on the results of these works, V. Anilovych prepared and defended in 1967 a doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Statistical theory of suspension of machine-tractor units.” On the materials of the dissertation, the monograph “Dynamics of a tractor” was written (in co-authorship with I. Barsky and G. Kutkov).

In 1969, V. Ya. Anilovych was awarded the academic title of professor for his successful research and teaching work and training of candidates of sciences.

Seeking to systematize and transfer the experience of scientific work, improve the training of engineering personnel, expand the profile of research in the field of reliability of agricultural machinery, Professor V. Ya. Anilovych accepted the invitation to move to the Kharkiv State Technical University of Agriculture. In 1971, he organized the Department of “Reliability, Durability, and Resistance of Materials” – the first department of this profile among the agricultural universities of the former Soviet Union.

In 1973, the department organized a branch research laboratory, which worked effectively with a large number of enterprises, implemented the results of its research, developed a theory of reliability of agricultural machinery, and trained researchers.

A brilliant organizer, scientist, and educator, he left behind a fundamental scientific legacy: he formed a generally recognized scientific school in the USSR and Ukraine for reliability, wrote 14 monographs and books, and 386 scientific papers, including 65 copyright certificates for inventions. In 2004 the last book of prof. V. Anilovych (in co-authorship with L. Pogorelii) “Tests of agricultural machinery: scientific and methodological bases for assessing and forecasting the reliability of agricultural machinery.”

The large-scale and bright figure of the academician of engineering academies of the two Slavic states, Honored Worker of Science and Technology, a talented scientist and teacher Veniamin Anilovych will remain not only in the memory of all who knew him personally but will forever go down in the history of domestic engineering.

Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor

Hrynchenko Oleksandr
(Head of the Department from 2002 to 2006)

In the process of scientific research, the staff of the department was formed and improved its qualification. Since 1972, one of the closest associates and followers of Professor V. Anilovich in solving problems of assessment, modeling, forecasting, and ensuring the reliability of technology, was Alexander Stepanovich Grinchenko. Continuing the traditions of the scientific school, under his leadership, future associate professors of the department M. Klimenko and O. Alferov, as well as a number of graduate students and researchers began their scientific activity and defended their dissertations. The doctoral dissertation also resulted in the defense of the doctoral dissertation by O. Alferov.

In the process of research, graduate students and staff of the department widely use both classical and the latest technologies for modeling and forecasting the work of the studied objects. These include both resource testing (including on the stands of the original design) and modeling of the stress-strain state by the finite element method.

A branch of the department was established at OJSC named after S. Ordzhonikidze. Research works are carried out with the enterprises of Kharkiv (OJSC KTP), Kyiv (LLC Ukrzapchast), Kherson (OJSC KhMZ), Poltava region (OJSC Karlivsky Mechanical Plant). At performance of researches the original bench equipment and the software are developed, modern software complexes of the engineering analysis are widely used. A laboratory for modeling the reliability of agricultural machinery structures has been established, in which undergraduates and graduate students conduct their research.
