About department

The Department of Physics and Theoretical Mechanics is a part of the educational and scientific institute of processing and food productions.

In order to improve the teaching of fundamental disciplines, which are basic for future specialists in the agro-industrial complex, the decision of the Academic Council of the University on September 1, 2017, created the Department of Physics and Theoretical Mechanics.

Prior to this unification, the Department of Physics and the Department of Theoretical Mechanics and Theory of Mechanisms and Machines separately went through a long and difficult path of formation and development. This path began with the establishment in 1930 of the Kharkiv Institute of Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture, which as a result of fruitful development became a well-known university in Ukraine – Kharkiv Petro Vasylenko National Technical University of Agriculture.

Prominent scientists played an important role in the formation of each department. One of the brightest leaders of the Department of Physics was the Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Startsev VI He was one of the founders of world-class scientific institutes: the Institute of Single Crystals and the Institute of Physics and Technology of Low Temperatures of the USSR Academy of Sciences. His scientific works are known outside Ukraine: in the USA, Germany, France, Japan, Canada, Austria. Among his students are 40 candidates and 6 doctors of sciences.

For a number of years, the Department of Physics was headed by Associate Professor M. Slonovsky. He had encyclopedic knowledge in various fields of science and technology. Much of his research has become the basis of Ph.D. and doctoral dissertations completed at KIMEA.

In the early 1980s, the Department of Physics was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor M. Goldin, a well-known scientist in the field of radiation engineering. He did a lot to improve the quality of the department. For this purpose, scientists from well-known scientific centers of Ukraine were invited to work at the department: Candidates of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Vlasenko V., Stepula E., Seryugin O., Chegoryan M., Spolnik O. came to the department from the scientific center of KIPT NAS of Ukraine. Physical and Technical Institute of Low Temperatures of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine – Candidates of Physical and Mathematical Sciences O. Butenko and I. Volchok. Due to this, the quality of scientific, educational, and educational-methodical works of the department has significantly improved, scientific research within state budget and economic contract topics. All candidates of sciences received the title of associate professors of the Department of Physics.

Professor M. Goldin founded a branch research laboratory for radiation technology. Within the walls of this laboratory, a GR-10 level signaling device was developed with the participation of V. Shestialtynov, a researcher, and Z. Malushko, a senior engineer, which was introduced into serial production.

Experienced teachers made a significant contribution to the educational and methodical work: associate professors Vlasenko V., Butenko O., Stepula E., Moskalyov V., Prokhorov M., senior teachers Gretska V., Kosovtsova N. and Kaliberda L. Associate professors Spolnik O. and Chegoryan M. was actively engaged in scientific and inventive activities – there were scientific articles, copyright certificates for inventions.

Since 1989, the Department of Physics was headed by Associate Professor Spolnik O. He continued to engage in research, which was started at the KIPT NAS of Ukraine. Spolnik O. founded a new scientific direction – the use of radio spectroscopic methods to study defects in the crystal structure of solids. For this researches, the creative collective was created, which included associate professors M. Chegoryan, I. Volchok, senior lecturer L. Kaliberda and researchers from NSC “KFTI” of NASU, FTINT. Verkin NASU, KhNU named after V. Karazina, NGO “Monocrystal Reactive”. The results of these studies have gained wide popularity not only in Ukraine but also abroad – in Poland, France, and Australia. In 1996, O. Spolnik defended his doctoral dissertation in solid-state physics and magnetism, received a doctorate in physics and mathematics, and a few years later became a professor. He was awarded the badges: “Excellence in Education of Ukraine” of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, “Excellence in Agrarian Education and Science” of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, “For the Merit” the Kharkiv Petro Vasylenko National Technical University of Agriculture and Diplomas of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine agrarian policy of Ukraine.

A qualitatively new period of development of educational, scientific-methodical, and scientific work has started at the department. Physics textbooks stamped by the Ministry of Education are published, and computer technology is introduced into the educational process. A significant role in the formation of modern methods of teaching physics was played by Associate Professor L. Caliberda, who supervised the educational and methodological work of the department. Associate professors Vlasenko V., Volchok I., Butenko O., Chegoryan M., Shestialtynov V., Prokhorov M. left a noticeable mark in this process. The scientific activity of the department continues successfully. An economic contract is underway to develop a detector of radioactive contamination of meat products for the area affected by the Chernobyl disaster. The detector was developed and successfully tested at a meat processing plant in Gomel, Belarus.

A new stage in the further development of the department is associated with major changes in the staff of the department – almost ninety percent of teachers have retired. Talented young people began to come to the department. Thus, Associate Professor A. Haidus was transferred from the Department of Cybernetics to the Department of Physics; A graduate of the Faculty of Physics and Technology of KSU. V. Karazin Prikhoda M. came to work at the department first as a senior laboratory assistant and eventually became a part-time assistant.

The Department of Theoretical Mechanics and Theory of Mechanisms and Machines was established at the Kharkiv Institute of Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture in 1972 after the division of the Department of Material Resistance and Theoretical Mechanics into two parts, headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor V.

The first head of the Department of Theoretical Mechanics and Theory of Mechanisms and Machines was one of the most experienced teachers of KIMEA – Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Zaleski M., who did much to establish the department.

In the future, the department was headed by Associate Professor Osadcha E. (1973-1974), Professor Garkusha I. (1974-1982, 1984-1985), Associate Professor Tatarintsev M. (1982-1984), Associate Professor Lutsenko S. (1985-1993).

Since 1993 The Department of Theoretical Mechanics and TMM was headed by Professor S. Kucherenko. S. Kucherenko’s scientific activity at that time was connected with the problems of the aerodynamics of flowing parts of steam and gas turbines. Sergey together with prof. I. Garkusha, working in KIMEA, established fruitful relations with the Kharkiv production association “Turboatom”. The works were related to the design of turbines for nuclear power plants with increased steam extraction.

Under the leadership of prof. S. Kucherenko is associated with the formation of a new high level of methodological support of disciplines taught at the department. The assembled team of authors under his leadership for fourteen years was engaged in the development of methodological support for teaching courses at the university: theoretical mechanics, the theory of mechanisms and machines, and applied mechanics. The following courses were developed and published: lecture courses in these disciplines, workshops for practical classes in theoretical mechanics and course design in the theory of mechanisms and machines, collections of tasks for independent work of students, reference books on theoretical mechanics, and basics of mathematics and physics. In total, the set of methodological support consisted of 22 textbooks and manuals, 10 of which were recommended for publication by the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine. Four textbooks have been used in other universities in Ukraine.

The teachers of the department, associate professor Burlaka V., associate professor Dronnik Yu., Professor Olshansky V., professor Sakharevych V., professor Garkusha I., associate professor Mokhir O., associate professor Skofenko S., associate professor Slipchenko M. made a significant contribution to the scientific and methodical work.

Since 2009, the Department of Theoretical Mechanics and Theory of Mechanisms and Machines and the Department of Machine Parts and Hoisting and Transport Machines have merged. The name of the new department is “Department of Theoretical Mechanics and Machine Parts”. In 2014, the Department of Physics was added to this department. The new department of “Physics, Theoretical Mechanics and Parts of Machines” was headed by Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Academician of NAAS of Ukraine Tishchenko L. Under the leadership of Professor Tishchenko L. TVs and multimedia support appeared in the classrooms, the equipment of the educational process reached a new level. Under the supervision of Academician L. Tishchenko, the staff of the department defended the candidate’s dissertations:
