The department has a research laboratory of vibrating grain cleaning machines, which has long been headed by world-renowned scientist, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor P. Zaika. The team of teachers, researchers of the laboratory, graduate students, and students of the department is working on the problem of developing the theory and means of separation of difficult-to-separate seeds based on vibration technology.
The team performed fundamental research on the dynamics of vibrating seed cleaning machines and the theory of Vibro-separation. The new physical and mechanical properties of the components of seed mixtures of crops have been studied, the optimal modes of movement of the working bodies of vibrating seed cleaning machines for cleaning and sorting seeds with its refinement to high sowing conditions have been established. Created vibrating seed cleaning machines are a priority for teachers, researchers, and graduate students of the laboratory and department. Developments are protected by more than three hundred copyright certificates and patents for inventions.
To date, the department researches in the areas:
- “Reclamation and tillage machines “- headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor V. Pastukhov.;
- “Machines for seed separation” – headed by Ph.D., Professor Bakum M.;
- “Sowing machines “- headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Morozov I.
According to the research materials, about twenty monographs and textbooks have been published, as well as more than 700 scientific articles in periodicals and collections of scientific works and more than 500 copyright certificates and patents for inventions. Four doctoral dissertations and more than thirty candidate dissertations have been defended on this topical issue..
By the decision of the tender commission of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, the Department of Agricultural Machinery of KhNTUA was recognized as the best graduating department among educational institutions of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine in the direction 6.100102 “Processes, machines and equipment of agro-industrial production”.
