Today our university was visited by the European champion in sumo wrestling among youth and adults Demid Karachenkov, who recently returned from the European Championship and brought two significant awards from there. In the men’s competition (weight category up to 85 kg) Demid defeated a rival from Russia and won a gold medal, and in the youth competition in the weight category, up to 85 kg won a bronze medal.
It will be recalled that Demid is a third-year student at the Institute of Processing and Food Production of our university, so he hurried to share the joy of his victory with friends and his mentors. One of such mentors is Honored Worker of Physical Culture, Honored Coach of Ukraine Leonid Hryn.
The rector of the university Oleksandr Nanka also met with the European champion and his coach, who congratulated our student on a significant victory and wished him further sports success and achievements. And Demid said that after the qualifying championship he plans to take part in the World Games, which will take place next year in the American city of Birmingham, and win another championship there.
Demid gave a short interview to the media communications department of KhNTUA, in which he once again thanked his coaches and mentors, as well as shared the secrets of his sporting success.
