In Ukraine, the sowing of early spring cereals and legumes is coming to an end. According to the Ministry of Agricultural Development, as of June 10, 2021, the following were sown: wheat – 174.7 thousand hectares (99%); barley – 1.33 million hectares (96%); oats – 186.8 thousand hectares (96%); peas – 229.6 thousand hectares (98%).
The sowing of early spring cereals and legumes – Vinnytsia, Volyn, Zakarpattia, Kyiv, Poltava, Rivne, Lviv, Ternopil, Khmelnytsky, Kherson, Odesa, Donetsk, Cherkasy, and Mykolayiv regions – has been completely completed.
In total, as of this date, Ukrainian farmers have sown 5.9 million hectares of spring cereals and legumes, which is 78% of the forecast. Last week, farmers sowed 1,530,000 hectares of spring crops.
In addition, sugar beets were sown on an area of 226.2 thousand hectares (100%), sunflower – 4.6 million hectares (72%), corn – 3.9 million hectares (74%), farmers in 9 regions sowed buckwheat on the area 26.3 thousand hectares (33%), 10 oblasts sowed millet on the area of 25.9 thousand hectares (22%), and all oblasts sow soybeans, which were sown with 626 thousand hectares (45%).
According to the forecasts of analysts of IA “APK-Inform”, in 2021 the gross harvest of cereals and legumes in Ukraine may reach 73.8 million tons, which is 13% higher than the previous season. Including gross harvest of wheat is expected at 27.5 million tons (+ 10%), barley – 8.0 million tons (+ 2%) and corn – 35.7 million tons (+ 19%), writes agronews.ua.
At the same time, UDSA analysts in the June report significantly raised the forecast for world wheat production in 2021/22 MY – by 5.5 million tons to 794.4 million tons, which is also 18.6 million tons higher than the current season (775,8 million tons).
